5 Huge Holes in the World


Mirny Diamond Mine in Siberia

The largest open diamond mine in the entire world. 525 metres deep with a top diameter of 1200 metres. There is a no-fly zone above the hole because of a few helicopters being sucked in.

 

Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah

The largest man-made excavation on earth. Digging began in 1863 and continues today, the pit increasing in size all the time. Its current state the hole is 3/4 mile deep and 2.5 miles wide.

Glory Hole at the Monticello Dam

The hole is at the top left of the picture above. The water that goes through the hole shoots out near the bottom of the dam.

Kimberley Big Hole in South Africa

The largest ever hand dug excavation in the world. This 1097 meter deep mine held over 3 tons of diamonds before it closed in 1914.

Great Blue Hole in Belize

Located 60 miles off the mainland of Belize stunning sight known as a Blue Hole. There are many blue holes around the world but none as beautiful as the Great Blue Hole.
